DELHI – JAIPUR – AGRA – GWALIOR
Day 01 : Arrive Delhi
Welcome to your 'The Golden Quadrangle' tour!
On arrival at Delhi airport / Delhi railway station (on your own) transfer to your hotel. Later enjoy a city tour of Delhi – visit Raj Ghat, a simple memorial to Mahatma Gandhi; drive past the magnificent Red Fort, overlooking the river Jamuna built during the years 1638 – 1648 when the Moghul Empire was at its peak. The tour continues to Jama Masjid, one of Asia's largest mosques and which is viewed from outside. Time permitting, shop in the local market of Chandni Chowk. On arrival into the hotel. In the afternoon, proceed on a city tour visiting Qutab Minar, India Gate and the Lotus Temple. Also, drive past President's House, Parliament House and Government Secretariat Buildings.
Day 02 : On to Jaipur (26- kms / approx. 5½ hour drive)
Proceed to the Pink City of Jaipur. Thereafter, the evening is free to explore this vibrant colourful city and its local markets on your own.
Day 03 : In Jaipur * Visit Amer, City Palace and Jantar Mantar
This morning, you will proceed on a visit to the ancient capital of the Kachhawaha Rajputs, Amer Fort. (Elephant ride or Jeep ride on direct payment basis). Once on top, stroll through the sprawling complex of courtyards and halls. Many of the rooms have delightful wall paintings, with precious stones and mirrors inlaid in the walls. Most fascinating, perhaps, is the Sheesh Mahal (hall of mirrors) where a single lamp lights is reflected in the many mirrors, lighting up the room. En route your way to Jaipur enjoy a photo-stop at Hawa Mahal-the palace of winds, an elaborate façade behind which the ladies of the court used to watch the daily goings on the street below. Later this afternoon, you will visit the City Palace and Jantar-Mantar, the observatory built by maharaja Jai Singh-II.
Day 04 : On to Agra (220 kms / approx. 6 hours drive)
Today, the journey continues to another historical and romantic city, Agra. En route visit Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted red sandstone city and once the capital of the Mughal Emperor Akbar in the late 16th century. In 1584, only 14 years after moving here, Akbar abandoned this short-lived capital because of shortage of water. Upon arrival at Agra, visit the famous Taj Mahal built by Mughul Emperor Shah Jehan in 1630 for his beloved Queen Mumtaz Mahal to enshrine her mortal remains.
Day 05 : On to Gwalior (120 kms / approx. 3 hour drive)
In the morning, visit the Agra Fort containing the Royal residential palaces, the Halls of Public & Private Audience and beautiful gardens. Later drive to Gwalior. In the evening enjoy the Sound & Light show (entry on direct payment basis) at Gwalior Fort where the history of Gwalior and its warriors is narrated.
Day 06 : In Gwalior
Proceed on a city tour, visiting the 9th century Teli Ka Mandir, the 11th century Sas Bahu ka Mandir and the Jiwaji Rao Scindia museum. Continue the tour visiting the Tomb of Tansen – Akbar's foremost court musician followed by the memorials of the earliest freedom fighters Tatya Tope and finally the newly constructed Sun Temple. The evening is free to shop in the local market (on your own).
Day 07 : Return home with happy memories
Today bid farewell to your 'The Golden Quadrangle' tour, as you are transferred to Gwalior railway station for your onward journey. Return home with happy memories.
